The Kiwanis Club of Palm Springs hosted the 2nd Annual Youth Baseball Clinic Saturday, April 30, 2

This great event was free to all youth in the Coachella Valley and was held at Cathedral City High School baseball field. All participants received hands on instruction from Cathedral City High baseball team members. Hitting, fielding, running and throwing techniques were all covered in this great event. Almost 80 young baseball players took advantage of the day and recieved autographed photos and some lucky participants recieved Tommy Davis signed balls and hats.
Tommy Davis, who retired from Major League Baseball in 1976 with a career .294 batting average, 153 home runs, 1,052 runs batted in and 2,121 career hits. Davis also made his mark on baseball as an outstanding pinch hitter. His career pinch hitting batting average was .320, which led the league at his retirement.
The baseball clinic chairman, Tony Lopes, comes from a baseball family, which drives his passion for him to put this event together. Lopes' cousin is Davey Lopes, who is a coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers and most noted for his role as an infielder during their very powerful mid-70's teams.
